A visit to Community Action Malvern
One of our trustees recently spent time visiting Community Action Malvern, a local organisation supported through the Strengthening Worcestershire Fund.
Community Action works to reduce loneliness and isolation across the Malvern area, particularly for older people and those experiencing mobility or health challenges. The visit offered a chance to meet the team and hear more about the wide range of activities and support they provide.
Trustee Tamar Thompson OBE met Sam, the Volunteering Manager, Elaine, the Community Transport Co-ordinator, and Aileen who leads the “Out and About” programme. This initiative sees participants deciding where they would like to go on trips each week, helping people stay active, connected and involved in their community.
Community Action also runs a community transport service helping around 140 people each week attend medical appointments, as well as regular social activities including a film club, Sunday tea gatherings and a growing programme of community events.
During the visit Tamar also met volunteers involved in the organisation’s Men’s Shed, a welcoming workshop space where people can socialise, learn practical skills such as woodworking and share knowledge with others. The group is run by volunteers and provides a relaxed and friendly environment where people can connect and build friendships.
Reflecting on the visit, Tamar said:
“I came away genuinely inspired by the range of work being delivered. The team clearly care deeply about what they do, and there’s a real sense of community in the space they’ve created.”
