Charles Moyle appointed new High Sheriff of Worcestershire

Worcestershire’s High Sheriff for 24/25 is Charles Moyle JP.  Charles ran a Worcester based marketing communications company employing over 150 local people, more recently mentoring successful young entrepreneurs.

His Declaration Ceremony took place on the 26th March 2024 at the Shire Hall Worcester in the presence of the Lord Lieutenant, High Court Judge The Honourable Mr Justice Pepperall, the Bishop of Worcester and distinguished guests, family and friends. He takes over the role from Louise Hewett. His focus for 2024/25 will dovetail and continue the work Louise started.

The office of High Sheriff is an independent, non-political Royal appointment for a period of one year. After the monarchy, it is the oldest secular office in the country, dating back to before the Norman Conquest.

The role is voluntary and today is largely ceremonial but carries the status of being the Queen’s highest judicial officer in the county and involves a mix of ceremonial, charitable and community functions.

Charles was brought up, educated, married and has worked in the county his whole life. A committed family man, (he and his wife Henrietta have seven children and are now also grandparents) he is proud to sit as a magistrate in Worcestershire and it is this lens that has led him to focus his year and fundraising activities around the theme of LIFE CHANCES.

LIFE CHANCES is primarily focused on young adults some of whom won’t have been strangers to the Youth Court system. They are some of the most vulnerable people in society suffering from numerous adverse childhood events.

Charles is creating a set of initiatives with partner organisations to help guide them away from a life in petty crime and, ultimately into the workplace where they can play their full part in society – and break the cycle! Inspiring young people to change their mindset and direction in life is the solution to an age-old problem – if you can fix the core cause then you can fix the problem.

Charles will be organising a series of events during his shrieval year to invite generous local donors to help make young people’s lives better across the county.
