Aurum Autism Support News

Congratulations to Aurum Autism Support.  As of January 2024 they are officially registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)!

A grant from WCF’s Inclusive Communities Fund for Aurum Autism Support helped them run groups for autistic women and autistic girls. The groups are held fortnightly in Great Malvern.

Aurum Autism Support provides a safe, professionally-led space for autistic women and girls to be their authentic selves. They run four groups for autistic women and four groups for autistic girls. The grant enabled them to purchase board games and art supplies and funded associated costs.

Group members and parents said:

“Aurum is a lifeline. I cannot express enough just how beneficial it has been to have a group of like-minded people to speak to. They are filling a frankly huge gap in the black hole that is women’s autism support.”

“Discussing autistic experiences with people who understand and believe me has helped build my self-esteem. I feel more empowered to be my own person and celebrate my strengths and differences. I’m less desperate for contact with others so I get myself into fewer damaging social situations and relationships. It helps to practice talking about aspects of autism in a safe environment. It’s helpful to have autistic role models.”

“Parenting a child with complex difficulties can feel very lonely and I am very grateful to Aurum for offering such expert help.”

“I have really liked having a chance to go out and socalise in a group where I feel like I will be understood. For me it has been particularly good that it is an all women’s group as other autism groups I have attended have been mostly male. Overall I feel like Aurum is helping me improve my confidence and mental health, and has helped me make friends and given me a feeling of belonging.”
