A visit to Cube Youth

One of our trustees recently visited Cube Youth, a youth organisation supported through the Strengthening Worcestershire Fund.

Cube Youth runs weekly Thursday evening sessions offering a range of structured and informal activities for young people from school year six and above. These include drama, arts and crafts, music and social activities, alongside a free meal for everyone attending.

During the visit, our trustee met staff, volunteers and several young people attending the session. Despite it being a cold November evening, over 50 young people were present; something the team explained is typical for these sessions.

The visit also highlighted the lasting impact of a previously funded cookery project. While the cookery sessions themselves had finished, their impact was clearly visible during the evening.

Two of the young people attending the session, Lily-Ann and Paige, had previously taken part in the cookery sessions and were now confidently preparing a meal for around 60 people attending that evening.

The cookery project also created opportunities for young people to gain insight into the catering industry. Participants were able to spend time learning from chefs at a local restaurant, gaining hands-on experience preparing and cooking food.

Reflecting on the visit, trustee Caryn Cox said:

“It was fantastic to see such a lively and welcoming environment. The young people were clearly enjoying the space and activities available to them, and it was great to see how the cookery project had helped build confidence and practical skills that they were now sharing with others.”

Cube Youth provides a safe and inclusive space where young people can take part in activities, develop practical skills and build confidence. For some young people, it also provides access to additional support such as clothing and wellbeing support when needed.

Lucy Wells, our Director, adds:

“Organisations like Cube Youth play a vital role in creating safe and supportive spaces for young people. It’s wonderful to see the impact that projects funded through the Strengthening Worcestershire Fund can have in helping young people build confidence, develop new skills and feel part of their community.”

Visits like this help us understand the real impact of the organisations supported through the Strengthening Worcestershire Fund and the difference they are making for communities across Worcestershire.
