Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club: Meals on Wheels project
Since 25th June Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club have offered and delivered by volunteers a two-course meal, free of charge. This has happened with the support from the following grants; Worcestershire Community Foundation £5,000 Tesco Bags for Help Scheme £500, and National Lottery Board £8,200, enabling us to cook and deliver 2,242 meals.
We put out an appeal for support and astonishingly 20 volunteers signed up with the project; including many who had been involved with Kays Theatre Group and Worcester Musical Theatre Company.
The next step was to inform local community groups that we were offering a Meals on Wheels service. The word got around quickly and numbers went quickly from 50 to 118 meals per week. With additional funding, hot food bags and food containers were purchased, and a local company gave us permission to download an App that created 15 delivery routes.
